Chesire Home Sale 5 July 2009
Written on: Monday, August 17, 2009
Time: 10:31 PM

In the morning of 4th July 2009, Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak participated in a charity Food Fair sales organized by the Cheshire Home in hopes to raise fund for the centre. Five of us from the Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak were participated in this sale; Leo Joey Chen, Leo Maxbie Teo, Leo Danny Lai, Leo Chai Siaw Yin and Leo Adrian Yao. The fund raised from this project will be donated to Cheshire Home

Few days before the sale, we ordered for 100 packets of chicken rice which cost RM 2.00 per packet. We sold the chicken rice for RM 4.00 per packet. However, last few packets of chicken rice were sold RM 3.00 to clear it.

We arrived at the venue at 7 am in the morning and arranged the food on the table. Our stall was placed at the corner of Cheshire Home which was less noticeable by people that affected the result of sale for first few hours The number of our stall was 48. Around 9:30 am, more and more people visited our stall since we shouted quite loud to sell chicken rice to attract attention. However, sometime after 10 am, the sale began to slow down. After that, we decided to sell the last few packets of chicken rice for RM 3.00. All food was sold out and we managed to collect RM385 from the sales. This collected fund including the cost of the ingredients and materials is donated to Cheshire Home.

From the sale, we learned to co-operate to each other as team members. It took our committee members a lot of hard work and effort to make this sale a success. It also improved our communication, marketing and planning skills. At the same time, we were all enjoying this experience and glad that we managed to raise fund for Cheshire Home.

I am hoping forward to have another charity sale similar to this one. Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak will kindly agree in participating next time.

Six of us from the Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak participated in this sale; Leo Chai Siaw Yin, Leo Maxbie Teo, Leo Lai Wei Nie, Leo Adrian Yao, Leo Yeo Pei Yuan and Leo Winnie. The fund raised from this project will be donated to the Autistic Home.

Few days before the sale, we ordered for 100 packets of chicken rice at the cost of RM 2.00 per packet and also winter melon tea. We sold the chicken rice for RM 4.00 per packet while RM 2.00 per cup or RM 3.00 for two cup of winter melon tea.

We arrived at the venue at 7am in the morning and arranged the food on the table. Less than two hours, the chicken rice was all sold out. The drinks were pretty hard to sell but around 10am, the drinks sold off pretty well. We also bought 10 cup of Cincau Sarsi from the store beside us which cost RM 2.00 per cup to repay the kindness of the owner for providing us plastic bags and ice. Representing Leo Club of Swinburne, we donated RM 10.00 to the Autistic Home. In the end, we manage to sell off everything and collected RM500. The collected fund including the cost of the ingredients and materials is donated to the Autistic Home.

After the sale, we learned a lot about cooperation and teamwork. It took our committee members a lot of hard work and effort to make this sale a success. It also improved our communication, marketing and planning skills. At the same time, we were all enjoying this experience and glad that we managed to raise fund for the Autistic Home.

I am looking forward to have another charity sale like this again. Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak will definitely be participating in the Autistic Home next time.

Leo Forum 2009
Time: 10:47 AM

The Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak has joined a Leo Forum on the 6th June 2009 (Saturday) to 8th June 2009 (Monday) at Santubong Resort, Kuching. This Leo Forum is proudly joined with 46 Leo Clubs from Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and Labuan. There are around 500 participants attending that Leo Forum. There are 6 leos from Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak participate in this Leo Forum which are President Maxbie Teo, 2ndVice president Danny Lai, Secretary Carol Chan, Treasurer Lai Wei Nie , Joanne Lim and Darrel Lim

On 6th June, 6 of us used the bus carter to go to Santubong resort. Reaching the resort, we were given our respective room keys from the organising committee. After unpacking our luggage, we went to the hall and attended the Leo Forum opening ceremony. We were honoured to have DG Lion Sim Boon Chuan to be our Guest of Honour and Lion Irene to be our Presiding Officer for our Leo Forum Opening Ceremony. The theme of this Leo Forum is “The Unity of Will, Virtue and Intellect.” There was also a brief section to brief us about the rules and regulations. An ice breaking section was held right after the opening ceremony. We had made lots of new friends from that event. On that night, we had our Fellowship Night with the theme of “Simplicity”

On 7th June, after we had our breakfast, we attended a talk on the Forum theme which is “The unity of Will, Virtue and Intellect”. We learnt how important Will, Virtue and intellect is from the talk and believe that we can apply these good moral values in our studies and our future. After that, we attended another talk about the duties of presidents, secretaries, treasurers and board of directors. After lunch, we attended another seminar, the topic was “The Road to Excellence”. The speaker shared with us about the obstacles to the road of excellence and how to go for a right track. At that night, we had our Banquet Night with the theme of “Polka Dots and Stripes”. There was also an award presentation that night. We, Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak received 5 awards at the night. We awards Excellent Club award for fiscal year 2008-2009, which are Outstanding President award, Outstanding Secretary awards, Outstanding Treasurer award and Outstanding Leo Advisor award . Other than that, our president and secretary were crowned Prom King and Prom Queen for the night.

On 8th June, after we had our breakfast, we attended the closing ceremony. During the Ceremony, we gave our suggestion and comment for this Leo Forum. We hope next forum will better than this year’s Leo forum.

Through this project, we had learnt a lot especially communication skills. We made a lot of new friends and we also manage to promote our university to our friends. After all these, I believe we all enjoyed participating in this Leo Forum.
