Blood Donation Campaign 2009

 This blood donation campaign ,which is an annual project for Leo Club of Swinburne University, was jointly organized by Voluntary Aid, Leo Club, S&R and Swinburne University. The objective of blood donation is to collect blood for General Hospital Kuching and to enhance the publics’ confidence in helping the needy.The project was done under the guidance of the Past President Lion Gerald Ng from Lions Club of Kuching North and Leo Advisor, Lion Edric Chan with the cooperation and coordination from Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank Department and The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (Kuching Chapter). The project would not be a success without the kind sponsorships from the Swinburne Sarawak Student Council. Apart from that, the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank brought biscuits and Milo.. Among the 90 visitors, 56 of them were successfully donated their blood. Small gifts and certificates were given to the blood donors.
Posters and fliers regarding the blood donation were distributed around the school a week before the event. On the day of the Blood Donation Campaign, a few of the club members helped out at the registration and refreshments counters. The members also help to guide donors throughout the whole process of the blood donation which is registration, health check up and interview, blood donation section, rest and refreshments area and the certificate counter.
The Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank staffs were very happy with the result and expressed their enthusiasm to cooperate with the club once more to organize another blood donation campaign in the near future.
The working committee for the project would like to express their utmost gratitude to the advisors, sponsors, Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank Department, The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (Kuching Chapter), Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus), donors for their support. It was glad that our committee members were willing to donate their blood. Put a nutshell, the activity was very successfully organized and we thank a lot to all the committees involved.
Cultural visit from Youth Exchange from Japan and Taiwan to Swinburne Sarawak University

 4 Leos from Taiwan and 4 Leos from Japan came for a visit to Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak in conjunction interacting with Leo Club of Swinburne University. This visit aims to foster the relationships between both the Leo members of Leo Club from the two countries and Leo Club of Swinburne University. Our Leo President, Danny Lai Voon Chin gave a talk regarding on the club activities that was held during fiscal year 08/09.
After that, refreshments were served. We interacted with one and another. Besides that, the visit was aimed to widen their perspective on Swinburne University. With the help of Swinburne University’s staff, Mr David and our fellow members, they were given a tour around the university and got to know the landscape of it.
Children Cancer Society Charity Sale

 In the morning of 4th July 2009, Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak participated in a charity Food Fair sales organized Children Cancer Society by the in hopes to raise fund for the centre. Seven of us from the Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak were participated in this sale; Leo Darrel Lim, Leo Maxbie Teo, Leo Danny Lai, Leo Emily fong, Leo Winnie, Leo Rosemarry and Leo Carol Chan. The fund raised from this project will be donated to Children Cancer Society.
Our university, Swinburne University of technology (Sarawak campus) is very support in this charity sale. After we summit our proposal of this charity sale to SSSC, our university donated some plastic bag and 2 boxes of mineral water for us to sell and also RM200 in this project.
We arrived at the venue at 7 am in the morning and arranged the food on the table. The number of our stall was 22. The foods that we sell on that day were 100 packs of chicken rice, 60 pieces of sandwiches, 20 bottles of vegetarian source and 4 boxes of mineral water. We sold the chicken rice with 1 bottle of mineral water at RM5, RM3 each for sandwiches and RM 4 each for the vegetarian source. Due to high competitor from the other chicken rice stalls around our area, we decided to lower down the price of our chicken rice to RM4 at around 9am. We manage to sell all the products except few bottle of vegetarian source at 10.30am. At last, we managed to collect RM625 from the sales. This collected fund including the cost of the ingredients and materials is donated to Children Cancer Society.
From the sale, we learned to co-operate to each other as team members. It took our committee members a lot of hard work and effort to make this sale a success. It also improved our communication, marketing and planning skills. At the same time, we were all enjoying this experience and glad that we managed to raise fund for Children Cancer Society.
I am hoping forward to have another charity sale similar to this one. Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak will kindly agree in participating next time.

Donation of Old Folk Home

 on 19 September 2009, Leo Club of Swinburne had join the donation to old folk home project at Hun Nam Siang Tang Old Folks Home together with our sponsoring Lions Club of Kuching North. We donated light food such as crackers and drinks for them. We also donated antiseptics, bandages, plasters and etc to the home. We were given a chance to tour the home and were briefed on the status of the home. It was overall a successful and meaningful project.
Region 1 Leo Camp 2009

 On 28-30 August, Region 1 Leo camp had successfully organize by Leo Danny Lai(Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak ) and Leo Mei Chin ( Leo Club of Sungai Tapang) . The principal consultant for the camp is DC Lion Mike Lim and the Camp Chief is Mr. Peroz Mc Pherson. There were 12 Leo Club’s members from different Leo Club and 5 other participants participate in that Leo Camp. The Venue is at Mount Mike, 10th mile Matang, Kuching which is also a villa of DC Lion Mike Lim. On the 28th August, there were few activities going on. A first activity was Blind Folded game which we are blind folded and the commander leaded us went into the jungle. Next, we were tried to build up our tents and our toilets and bathroom. At night, after our dinner, we went for a night walk in the mountain. Last activities of the days were writing a comment on the activities we did and lesson that we learned for the day. On the second day, we cooked for our own breakfast and learned how to start a fire with only one match. We played obstacles and games such as trust fall, holding hands and untangle ourselves, Spiderman games that promote team work. At night, we have our barbeque. A video clip of the“Acheh Tsunami incident” was shown that night. We learned that one should contribute morally and financially to those who are more unfortunate then us and learn to appreciate life. On the last day, we went to the waterfall and played. Then, we made our own raft and had rafting and swimming competition. After we packed our tents, we have our sharing moment together. In conclude, I personally feel that is not only a physical camp but spiritual. I learned lots of lesson from this camp. The most meaningful lesson that I learned from the camp was social skills. For example, the ages of the participants were between 12-20 years old, and that is a great opportunity for me to learn how to overcome the gaps between us and acts as a team. I strongly hope that we can organize a camp with cooperate with Lion Mike Lim again and let the other Leo club members have a chance to experience something that they cannot found on book. Region 1 Leo Orientation 2009

On 19 septmber 2009, Leo Club of Swinburne University (Sarawak Campus ) had organized a Region 1 (whole Kuching) Leo Orientation at Swinburne University (Sarawak Campus). There are 90 Leo Club members from 14 Leo Clubs in Kuching city attended the Region 1 Leo Orientation. The Speaker of the Days is D.C. Michael Lim, who is a ex-news director of NTV7, ex –Vice President of Bank Utama, ex- Sarawak state football ,cricket and hockey player. He is also a past president of lions club of cosmopolitan and currently members of Lions Club of Kuching North and also a District Cabinet Leadership Development of District 308A2.
In that Leo Orientation, Leo Club members have deep understanding on the motto and objective of become a members of Leo Club. Besides, Leo Club members also the important of teamwork, and the duty as a citizen and a member of Leo Club members.
A video clip of the“Acheh Tsunami incident” was shown. The main purpose of the clip was to ensure that people are well aware of the destruction of the Tsunami, the devastation on the lives and livelihoods, their perceptions of the quality, effectiveness and appropriateness of aid, and the challenges that they continue to face. One should contribute morally and financially to those who are more unfortunate then us and learn to appreciate life. Later, Leo Club members had refreshments and interacted with different respective Leo Clubs. At the same time, Leo Club members exchanged different opinions about the LEO orientation and foster the relationship between one another at the same time. The refreshments was sponsored by Swinburne University (Sarawak Campus), which had been supporting and giving financial support on the charity works and the programs held by Leo Club of Swinburne.

Care Project at Bau

That morning, Leo Club of Swinburne University Sarawak decided to join in the Care project with Leo Club of St. Thomas to Bau. Leos from our club present were Leo Danny Lai, Joanne Lim, Kelvin Chong, Darrel Lim,Chong Man Yen, Yeo May Ying, Vincent Teo, Phang Boon Fui, Rosemary Yen, Thein Jia Yee. The project is aimed at exposing the members of the club to the concept of servicing and volunteering as well as to raise the awareness about the less fortunate ones living in the rural areas in our society today.
We meet the Leos and Lions from Leo Club of St. Thomas at Siang Siang Coffee Shop in MJC at 10AM and started our journey after that.
Details of the family:
· Father ,aged 43, works as a contract worker cutting grass. · Mother, aged 39, house wife. · Monthly income · Survived on the vegetables grown on a small garden patch across the road and meat is a luxury for them · No electric and piped water supply. · The hut of their house does not have a ceiling and is 9 years old . The parents cannot afford to send the children to school as the transport costs RM5.00 one way to school. . They survive on vegetables grown on a small garden patch across the road. . Meat considered a luxury item, is seldom eaten, though a few chickens were reared.

About
Leo Club of Swinburne University (Sarawak Campus) was established and chartered on 28th October 2005 with Leo Kenneth Mah as the founder and the first president. Our club was kindly sponsored by the Lions Club of Kuching North, with Lion Edric Chan and Lion Gerald Ng being the Leo Advisors whose commitments over the years has brought us to a greater height.
During the first year of establishment, various activities were carried successfully. In 2006, our club twined with Leo Club of Sibu Mandarin.

We sold the chicken rice with 1 bottle of mineral water at RM5, RM3 each for sandwiches and RM 4 each for the vegetarian source. Due to high competitor from the other chicken rice stalls around our area, we decided to lower down the price of our chicken rice to RM4 at around 9am. We manage to sell all the products except few bottle of vegetarian source at 10.30am. At last, we managed to collect RM625 from the sales. This collected fund including the cost of the ingredients and materials is donated to Children Cancer Society.
From the sale, we learned to co-operate to each other as team members. It took our committee members a lot of hard work and effort to make this sale a success. It also improved our communication, marketing and planning skills. At the same time, we were all enjoying this experience and glad that we managed to raise fund for Children Cancer Society.
I am hoping forward to have another charity sale similar to this one. Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak will kindly agree in participating next time.

Donation of Old Folk Home

 on 19 September 2009, Leo Club of Swinburne had join the donation to old folk home project at Hun Nam Siang Tang Old Folks Home together with our sponsoring Lions Club of Kuching North. We donated light food such as crackers and drinks for them. We also donated antiseptics, bandages, plasters and etc to the home. We were given a chance to tour the home and were briefed on the status of the home. It was overall a successful and meaningful project.
Region 1 Leo Camp 2009

 On 28-30 August, Region 1 Leo camp had successfully organize by Leo Danny Lai(Leo Club of Swinburne Sarawak ) and Leo Mei Chin ( Leo Club of Sungai Tapang) . The principal consultant for the camp is DC Lion Mike Lim and the Camp Chief is Mr. Peroz Mc Pherson. There were 12 Leo Club’s members from different Leo Club and 5 other participants participate in that Leo Camp. The Venue is at Mount Mike, 10th mile Matang, Kuching which is also a villa of DC Lion Mike Lim. On the 28th August, there were few activities going on. A first activity was Blind Folded game which we are blind folded and the commander leaded us went into the jungle. Next, we were tried to build up our tents and our toilets and bathroom. At night, after our dinner, we went for a night walk in the mountain. Last activities of the days were writing a comment on the activities we did and lesson that we learned for the day. On the second day, we cooked for our own breakfast and learned how to start a fire with only one match. We played obstacles and games such as trust fall, holding hands and untangle ourselves, Spiderman games that promote team work. At night, we have our barbeque. A video clip of the“Acheh Tsunami incident” was shown that night. We learned that one should contribute morally and financially to those who are more unfortunate then us and learn to appreciate life. On the last day, we went to the waterfall and played. Then, we made our own raft and had rafting and swimming competition. After we packed our tents, we have our sharing moment together. In conclude, I personally feel that is not only a physical camp but spiritual. I learned lots of lesson from this camp. The most meaningful lesson that I learned from the camp was social skills. For example, the ages of the participants were between 12-20 years old, and that is a great opportunity for me to learn how to overcome the gaps between us and acts as a team. I strongly hope that we can organize a camp with cooperate with Lion Mike Lim again and let the other Leo club members have a chance to experience something that they cannot found on book. Region 1 Leo Orientation 2009

On 19 septmber 2009, Leo Club of Swinburne University (Sarawak Campus ) had organized a Region 1 (whole Kuching) Leo Orientation at Swinburne University (Sarawak Campus). There are 90 Leo Club members from 14 Leo Clubs in Kuching city attended the Region 1 Leo Orientation. The Speaker of the Days is D.C. Michael Lim, who is a ex-news director of NTV7, ex –Vice President of Bank Utama, ex- Sarawak state football ,cricket and hockey player. He is also a past president of lions club of cosmopolitan and currently members of Lions Club of Kuching North and also a District Cabinet Leadership Development of District 308A2.
In that Leo Orientation, Leo Club members have deep understanding on the motto and objective of become a members of Leo Club. Besides, Leo Club members also the important of teamwork, and the duty as a citizen and a member of Leo Club members.
A video clip of the“Acheh Tsunami incident” was shown. The main purpose of the clip was to ensure that people are well aware of the destruction of the Tsunami, the devastation on the lives and livelihoods, their perceptions of the quality, effectiveness and appropriateness of aid, and the challenges that they continue to face. One should contribute morally and financially to those who are more unfortunate then us and learn to appreciate life. Later, Leo Club members had refreshments and interacted with different respective Leo Clubs. At the same time, Leo Club members exchanged different opinions about the LEO orientation and foster the relationship between one another at the same time. The refreshments was sponsored by Swinburne University (Sarawak Campus), which had been supporting and giving financial support on the charity works and the programs held by Leo Club of Swinburne.

Care Project at Bau

That morning, Leo Club of Swinburne University Sarawak decided to join in the Care project with Leo Club of St. Thomas to Bau. Leos from our club present were Leo Danny Lai, Joanne Lim, Kelvin Chong, Darrel Lim,Chong Man Yen, Yeo May Ying, Vincent Teo, Phang Boon Fui, Rosemary Yen, Thein Jia Yee. The project is aimed at exposing the members of the club to the concept of servicing and volunteering as well as to raise the awareness about the less fortunate ones living in the rural areas in our society today.
We meet the Leos and Lions from Leo Club of St. Thomas at Siang Siang Coffee Shop in MJC at 10AM and started our journey after that.
